Celebrating International Coffee Day

Down2Earth Materials believe that food packaging should meet the highest environmental standards while helping businesses reduce their carbon footprint.  Their mission is to offer products that support both sustainability goals and align with Ireland's push for greener, more eco-conscious practices.

As a family-owned business, their close-knit team is deeply passionate about environmental responsibility. Down2Earth are committed to ensuring that each product they supply not only benefits the user but also contributes positively to global environmental efforts. Down2earth are also honoured to sponsor the Family Run Business category for the Guaranteed Irish Business Awards 2025, celebrating the vital contributions family businesses make to Ireland's economic and cultural landscape

EN13432 Certification: Our packaging and coffee cups meets the EN13432 certification, which guarantees that it is industrially compostable under both EU and Irish laws. This means that within 90 days, our packaging breaks down into nutrient-rich soil, closing the loop from waste to resource. This certification demonstrates our leadership in promoting a circular economy and minimising landfill waste.

Cré Ireland Certification: Our compostable coffee cups and food containers have received the highest level of certification from Cré Ireland. This certification assures our customers that these cups can be disposed of in the food waste bin and processed by Irish waste management systems. Not only does this certification provide confidence and transparency to users, but it also highlights our ongoing dedication to reducing single-use plastics and non-compostable materials in the Irish coffee sector.

Guaranteed Irish 'G' Symbol: All our compostable coffee cups proudly display the Guaranteed Irish 'G' symbol, showcasing our commitment to supporting Irish businesses and the local economy. Alongside this logo, our cups feature all relevant sustainability certifications, including EN13432 and Cré Ireland, giving users clear visibility of their environmental credentials. This logo strengthens the trust that customers and end-users place in our products, knowing they are backed by a commitment to quality, sustainability, and supporting Irish industry.

Commitment to Circular Economy: By turning waste into valuable resources, we help businesses, especially local cafés and restaurants, achieve their sustainability goals while also playing a part in larger environmental efforts globally. We believe in closing the loop through responsible, eco-friendly products that are designed to reduce waste at every stage of their lifecycle.

Coloured Cups: Down2Earth Materials is proud to support International Coffee Day with our range of fully compostable cups. Irish-made and 'Cré' certified, these cups break down in under 90 days in commercial composting facilities, making them a perfect sustainable choice for cafés and coffee shops. Available in stylish matte black, burnt orange, navy blue, along with our core range of kraft brown and oyster white. Our double-walled design ensures drinks stay hot while hands stay cool. This range is a great example of how Irish businesses can lead the way in sustainability without compromising on style or quality.

Biodegradable vs. Compostable: What’s the difference?

If an item is labelled ‘Biodegradable’, it will biodegrade, but the length of time it will take to full break down is not specified – it could be 1000 years before something ‘Biodegradable’ to fully decompose.

If an item is labelled ‘Certified Compostable’ it means that this item will biodegrade into nutrient-rich soil within a 90-day period. It will certifiably break down into soil within 6 weeks when commercially composted.
