The Green Hospitality Programme is the Irish Hospitality, Travel & Tourism Resource for Sustainable and Responsible Tourism. It was created to provide best practice environmental management advice and support to the sector following increasing cost pressures, increasing environmental regulations and a growing demand from stakeholders for all businesses to demonstrate their environmental credentials.
Green Hospitality has developed two free tools for tourism & hospitality businesses and invite any business to try them out. They are an excellent place to start a business’s Green journey and provide a quick snapshot of your current baselines.

Environmental Assessment Survey
This survey is a series of 30 questions that assess your company’s current level of environmental engagement and covers Administration, Energy, Water and Waste. You will receive an overall “Score” showing your percentage as well as a Resource Efficiency (Energy, Water, Waste) score and a Management Approach score.
Following the assessment, you will receive an Action Plan based on your responses which is an excellent place to start from, or to continually improve from. The assessment will take no more than 10 minutes to complete.
Carbon Calculator
This free carbon calculator is a great place to start measuring your business’s Scope 1 & 2 and selected Scope 3 emissions. The results are shown in tonnes of Carbon Dioxide equivalent emissions and should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete, given you have the annual consumption data required.
You will receive your business’s Carbon Footprint along with a Carbon Reduction Action Plan and links to further resources.
As you improve your performance your Environmental Assessment Survey score should improve and your Carbon Footprint should decline. Green Hospitality can assist you in improving your performance and, if you wish, you can also secure one of their eco-labels – The Green Hospitality Award for larger tourism businesses and the Eco-Friendly Business GREENMark for smaller businesses.
